For over 25 years Marion has worked closely with the Ralph Russell, the leading western scholar and teacher of Urdu. Having learnt Urdu from him, she co-taught on Urdu courses and has developed teaching materials both for adults & for schools:

She assisted Ralph to prepare his collected articles for publication in book form, and has written assessments of his contribution to Urdu studies. Most recently she has been editing his autobiography, which brings together writing and reflections from across his personal, political and scholarly experience:
