For over 26 years Marion worked closely with the Ralph Russell, the leading western scholar and teacher of Urdu. She edited his autobiography which brings together writing and reflections from across his personal, political and scholarly experience, assisted him in revising his collected articles for publication in book form, and published assessments of his contribution to Urdu studies.

Since his death in 2008 she has been his literary executor. She is currently editing further of his work for publication.

Having learnt Urdu from Ralph, she had co-taught with him on Urdu courses and collaborated on developing teaching materials.
